The suburban city of Highland Park in Lake County is a part of North Shore, that affluent string of idyllic communities along the southwestern banks of Lake Michigan. It is bounded by Lake Forest, Deerfield, and Glencoe, and is situated about 28 miles away from Downtown Chicago.

Highland Park was founded in 1869. Back then, it only had a population of 500 residents. By the 1880s, the local population doubled to over a thousand residents. Historians attribute the city’s name to its parklike setting and most importantly its geographic location, with Highland Park sitting high between 580 to 720 feet above sea level.
