Evanston

Dubbed as one of the coolest suburbs in the country, Evanston lies just outside of northern Chicago, in Cook County. This lakeside city is home to the renowned Northwestern University and shares borders with Kenilworth, Skokie, and Wilmette.

The area we know today as Evanston underwent several transformations. At the beginning, it was all wetlands. When non-Native American settlers arrived in the 1830s, the area became known as “Grosse Pointe Territory” and “Gross Point voting district.” It was eventually renamed to Evanston after John Evans in 1854, three years after Northwestern University was founded. In 1863, Evanston was incorporated as a town and then as a city in 1872.
